SUPER NORMAL

Super Normal (prototypes) is inspired by the concept of the same name, by Jasper Morrison and Naoto Fukasawa, and is defined as objects that operates intuitively and blends in with people and surroundings.

Material: stained oak, burnsihed steel

Live Berg’s devotion to visual simplicity and product longevity is evident in Super Normal, her prototype sustainable furniture system in solid oak and burnished steel. Designed for flat-pack distribution and tool-free assembly, the collection includes a chair, dresser and table unit coloured black with linseed oil. Constructed from materials selected for durability and ease of repair, each piece exhibits an archetypal shape, intended to ensure a long lifespan, unaffected by changing style and material trends. The pieces are also highly adaptable; the chair has an adjustable backrest; and the dresser and table can easily have drawers added or removed, allowing them to shift in function between storage and display.

Super Normal expresses simplicity in its every plane, joint, and line. A casual glance across a room might not even register the pieces; their appearance is so linear it is almost two- dimensional. But that is the beauty of the concept at work; adaptable, archetypal pieces pared down to its very essence of the objects. Resisting the trend to invent a new brand, the Norwegian designer Live Berg Olsen would rather normalize standards that currently exists as ideals for many people. This is where the work addresses itself to the future: the commitment to non-toxic pieces that will have long life, but also can be safely recycled when the time comes. That the collection is made from wood and steel, the emblems of craft and industry, respectively, promotes its position as an iconic and contemporary classic.
